YOUTH PROGRAMS
We offer programs for recreational and competitive skiers from ages 5 to 19. These programs help kids develop a love for Nordic skiing and an appreciation for being active in the winter months. We believe that a fun and healthy outdoor lifestyle mixed with a great group of kids provides a foundation for growth and personal development.
Snowburners (Ages 5-14): For kids ages 5 through 14 to learn cross country skiing through fun and games in a non-competitive environment. Meets 1x/week on Sundays from 9:30-12:00 for 8 weeks through January & February. There is a discounted registration rate until mid-December. Rental equipment is available for kids in this program.
Cruisers (Ages 8-14): For elementary and middle school aged athletes who wish to have fun, be outside with friends during the winter months, and develop their ski skills in a less competitive environment. Meets 2x/week on Tuesdays & Thursdays for 8-10 weeks, snow dependent. If your kiddo is younger than 8 and is interested in Cruisers, reach out to connect with our Coaches. If you have a middle-school kiddo who would like to ski more but is not sure about joining the team, you can consider Cruisers + the “Afterburners” Snowburners program for three days a week of skiing.
Nordies (Ages 7-18): For the youngster who wants to get off the beaten path and use skiing as a way to venture out into the wilderness in a fun and safe environment on scaled touring or classic skis. Meets 1x/week for 8 weeks starting mid-January through the beginning of March. Includes an overnight adventure too!
W.A.C.O. (Ages 14-19): For high-school athletes who wish to maintain fitness during the winter. This program is ideal for the competitive mountain biker, the cross-country runner, or the summer sports athlete who is looking for a way to remain fit during the snowy winter months. Register for 2-days/week for 8-10 weeks, or drop-in (2 session registration minimum).
Race Program (Ages 8-19): For competition-minded skiers who wish to reach their full potential. Participants compete in Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) Junior National Qualifier (JNQ) races in Colorado and Utah. Dryland practice starts mid- to late-October. Enrollment is open through the start of the season.
Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and fundraising efforts, we try to keep average program costs to about $20-22 per practice session. Durango Nordic's program fees remain a fraction of program fees for other Nordic programs in Colorado and are consistent on a per session rate with DEVO and other local club programs.
